Stake conference [steyk][kon-fer-uhns]:
--noun
1. an official assembly of clergy and laity, in a division of ecclesiastical territory, consisting of a number of wards presided over by a president and two counselors.
2. a time for wiping noses, propping up nodding heads, continually searching for something new and interesting to do that may have grown in the bag, trying to make room for two kids on my lap, stopping near constant squabbles over who had more right to my lap over the other, a child who kept singing along with the choir, calming a panicked child whose fingernail finally ripped off after hanging on by a thread for weeks, trying hard to keep the kids' antics from injuring the elderly women sitting next to us, lamenting not bringing snacks...
3. The longest two hours of my life!!!!
LOL! Lara, all these definitions apply for us too...hence the reason we don't take the little kids anymore. shhh!
ReplyDeleteYour post brought back a lot of memories of stake and general conferences past.
ReplyDeleteIn spite of many, many moments like these over the years-we all survived and are better people for the experience.
Convinced that there is a certain amount of spiritual osmosis at church meetings like these.
That's pretty funny Lara! Good times!
ReplyDeleteToo funny, sigh...been there done that! Actually, the stake primary started handing out folders for the primary children to keep them quiet during stake conference. In them it has crayons, papers to color, puzzles, and lacing string and patterns. It is something new and keeps them quiet for the first 15 minutes.
ReplyDeleteUgh. Stake conference = going to church because it's the right thing to do.
ReplyDeleteIn Anoka they have an adults only meeting on Saturday night that we always try to make it to so we can get some sort of spiritual nourishment out of stake conference!
I swear we are living the same life except you run and build mailboxes and I ... well, I don't.
ReplyDeleteLoved it!!
I agree completely!! Please don't remind me I think ours is coming!
ReplyDeleteOne time I got there EARLY to actually get a bench. :) It was the very last bench in the middle, shorter than the rest, just big enough to fit my family....well, turns out it is the handicapped bench and I had to give it up 10 minutes before the meeting started!!! Back to the BACK of the gym for us. Keep on Keepin on Lara!! We can do this! :)
