Glen might be smarter than me.
After 15 years of marriage I'm just coming around that maybe, just maybe, this is a true statement. Since I know nothing about accounting and he knows nothing about menu planning and blogging, there's only one way to compare our brain power...
BOARD GAMES!!
Although on my own I'm a pretty skilled Scrabble and Boggle player (also quite humble), but when I play Glen I lose probably 85% of the time...
and it drives me crazy every time!
So for Christmas, my sister AnnaLisa sent us a game called "Blokus". A game that involves strategy and spatial thinking and has all sorts of Mensa awards on the box. Glen does everything he can to block me out and beat me, yet I still have managed to beat him every single time. I'm 7 for 7 now and feeling pretty smug.
So now there are seven games (Scrabble not shown since the box is too beat up from overuse) on Glen's side of the tally and one on mine! But I'm convinced that the Mensa awards on mine totally outweigh the combination of his seven.
Hmmm...maybe I'll have to retract the first statement.
For the record, although Lara may have won Blokus 7 times, I have only played Blokus 3 times (and played behind Lara every one of those 3 times - a significant strategic disadvantage)! Hardly sufficient sample size to warrant global domination in that game much the less every aspect of mental supremecy!
ReplyDeleteAll that notwithstanding - I would never in a million years suggest I am smarter than Lara. I have learned at least that much in 15 years of marriage!
I didn't see Trivial Pursuit in your pile of games. As I remember, Glen and you were always pretty good at it as well. Of course, we always have Heather and Tom and Nate and Tim as world-class TP players.
ReplyDeleteI would win everytime, if every category was "blue" (geography)!
But alas, there are five other colors on the board.
LOL!!! I love to play the game Amun Re, because it is one of the few games that I can beat Roger!!! I totally enjoy that victorious moment, because that is all I get...a moment!!!
ReplyDeleteTrivial Pursuit is not in our pile, because we both stink at it.
ReplyDeleteLARA!!!!!! Why are we not getting together and playing board games. We love almost every game in your pile (the notable exception being rummikub...since I have only won ONE time in our entire marriage)?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE boggle, scrabble, and settlers especially!!!
I love Blokus! What a great game. It's also one of the few that I actually beat Justin at as well.
ReplyDeleteHappy gaming!
We bought Blokus for Christmas for Nolan a few years ago on a recommendation from a friend who said, 'It's for geniuses, but normal people can play too.'
ReplyDeleteGood for you for winning that game! Playing it with Ryan and Nolan stresses me out!
I've never even heard of blokus. What's it about?
ReplyDeleteI challenge everyone that reads this to a game of Settlers. Come on over. I do manage to win about 40% of the time.
Before I get off track, you have such a great smile in all of your pictures that it was a little eerie to see you looking so evil.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, board games are the best. Avery got a travel Blokus game for his birthday it's loads of fun. I imagine the full-sized game is even better?
At least you have a hubby that likes games or at least humors you by playing them. I win almost all of the board games I play, but that might be because I always play them with my kids.
If you ever need a fifth wheel at Denise and Troy's, give me a call. I've got a babysitter all lined up!
i'm glad you all like the game! i had never heard of it until you asked for it for Christmas.
