Just Popping Up to Say, "Hi!"

Only 16 more days to Groundhog's Day!

Can't you just feel the excitement in the air?

I can. My kids have already started talking about it incessantly, eagerly handing me shopping lists, and giving me head counts of their classmates.

Why do they care so much?

It's these cute little fellows that pop up in our house every February 2!

I started making them 7 years ago for Spencer's first grade class and the kids haven't let me miss a year since then. Every February 1st has found our house turned into an icing coated cupcake making factory. We set up an assembly line and watch our little army take shape one groundhog at a time!

Be sure to check our family recipe blog for the recipe and directions, so you can add a little pizazz (and sugar) to your Groundhog's Day too!

  1. We make those every year, too!!!

People have accused me of having too much time on my hands when they see them. Nothing could be further from the truth....they are kind of a pain to make but my kids are the same way....we just gotta do it!

Besides, what else is there to do in February in Minnesota?!?

  2. what a great idea. A holiday that we tend to overlook. I will take a look at the recipe and try it with my family.

  3. Thanks for the idea--I've never seen groundhog treats before! I'm going to try them this year, and probably for many years hence since my kids are like yours--they'll insist upon it. Lucky for me, though, our schools don't allow homemade treats so I won't be making dozens. You are ambitious!

Oh, and my almost 13-yr old scout survived the campout last night, too!

  7. Lara, you have been doing this for seven long years and neve have sent mom and I any of these little chocolate cuties?

And just a thought, but I am beginning to think that Andie and you really are long lost sisters or cousins.

    Love, Grandpa-Grandma
