Preparing for High Adventure

Spencer's been looking forward to this day for a LONG time--the day he gets to go on his first Scouting High Adventure. Our ward has amazing Scout leaders who help these teenage boys to have some fantastic opportunities.

This year it's a ten day trip up to Maine for fishing and canoeing.

For as excited as Spencer is about going, I daresay that Glen is equally if not more excited to go along. Not only does he get a week and a half off of work, but fishing is in his blood and he has felt deprived of good fishing since the day we moved out of the mountains more than 12 years ago!

We dropped Spencer and his and Glen's gear off tonight at the YM president's house, so they'd all be packed up and ready to go by 4:00 tomorrow morning. Glen, however, opted to enjoy one last good night's rest before heading off to a lumpy tent floor for the next several days.

Although all of his gear was already dropped off and ready to go, Glen had one more thing he was anxious to take care of before he left....

a maintenance free buzz cut....
the shortest he's ever had his hair in his entire life.

His reasoning for the drastic change?
  • No brushing or styling required
  • Little shampoo needed
  • Guaranteed not to harbor any unseen little critters
  • Because he felt like it (and to him that's the best reason of all)

Hehe--doesn't he remind you of Paul Hogan in Crocodile Dundee? Or maybe someone in Raiders of the Lost Ark? In any case it struck me as funny enough to get out of bed at 3:30 this morning to take a picture of him.

  1. Love the new "do" Glenno!! You will grow to love it over the next few weeks.

Hope you and Spencer have a delightful time up in Maine. Upper Maine is one of my favorite places in the world.

  2. Just be prepared for the beard that will appear by the time he gets back (and most likely be longer than his hair).

I'm just going to apologize in advance for any influence my hubby might have on yours over the next week and a half.

Speaking of which, would you like to come help me clean out my basement? I'm sure you've got the time with Glen being gone and all.

  5. Getting up early AM for a photo opportunity is something I would do.

  6. While the YM were "sleeping" over on Wednesday night I gave one of them a mowhawk (by request) at 2:00 AM. Don't worry, it wasn't Spencer:)

  7. 3:30 am? Come on now. He could have been holding 'ol Dundee's crocodile and I still would not have dragged myself out of bed to snap a pic of it. So dedicated, you are!
