Border's License

Before Scout Camp this year Spencer had to spend several hours taking an on-line course to certify him to be a licensed motor boat driver.
I was grateful for the common sense instruction before camp, but was also quite glad that we don't actually own a motor boat and would feel compelled to actually let him drive it.

After Scout Camp Spencer gave me his motor boating license to keep safe for him. Safekeeping generally is not my strong point since it requires organization and a good memory, but since the license happens to fit nicely into my wallet I was pretty confident that I would be a good steward of the motor boat license.

Imagine my surprise when Adam came running up to me the other day and said,

"Mom! I found Spencer's boaters' license underneath the cushion of the couch."

Me, quizzically and with visions of spending the next 26 hours tracking down all the money (okay it was just quarters), uncashed checks (Cami's), and cards that are supposed to be safe in my wallet while risking my health and safety delving into the deep dark depths of life underneath our couch cushions: "Oh no! How'd it get under there? Has someone been playing in my wallet?"

Adam, excitedly interjects with, "His boater's license is cool. I like that it has that Star Wars guy on there. When can I get a boater's license too?"

Me: [Blank stare.]

Adam: "See Mom."

Aaahhhh....BOATERS---BORDERS. I get it.

Since then I've decided that Adam may be on to something here. In a couple of years, maybe I can trick Spencer into getting a diver's license instead of a driver's license...

  1. I love that idea! Excuse me while I go change Alyssa's HS schedule. I can't wait to see her face as she shows up for Diver's Ed in a couple of weeks!

  4. Awesome! I'm not sure how I would feel about a diver's license though.
