Although it is a well-known fact that the seven-year-old in our house has a thing for wearing pink....
it's a bit stranger to wake up one morning and find my high school kids decked out in pink from head-to-toe.
For as much as Ellie would think it was pretty sweet if her fashion tastes are rubbing off on her older siblings...
in reality they were just a small wave in a sea of pink students at school that day, who had bedecked themselves in a "pink-out" in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
Although wearing pink may not necessarily seem all that helpful of a gesture toward those with cancer, the school also donated proceeds from sporting events over the weekend to fund breast cancer research. Additionally it got my kids to asking about who we knew that had had breast cancer, which sparked a good discussion.
Spencer posted this to his twitter account after that discussion:
800th goes out to my Great Aunt Linda and anyone else currently or done fighting breast cancer #StayStrong #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth
And that's coming from someone who knows a little about fighting...
Cancer in its many faces, is horrible no matter the type.
To those of our friends and family affected by breast cancer,
our hearts go out to you and we pray that you find
the same peace and support that we found through our own cancer journey.
A special shout-out to my high school friend, Monica, who is finishing up treatment
for her THIRD bout with cancer--each occurrence fought with grace and positivity!

I love all the pink! I hope cancer is a thing of the past by the time our kids are old!
