Random Facts about Mormon Temples

Random Facts about Mormon Temples:

There are 139 operating temples around the world.

Our regular weekly worship services are NOT held in the temple.

You must be a worthy, active member of the church, holding a current temple recommend to enter the temple.

Temples are considered houses of God, a place of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world. They provide a place where Church members make formal promises and commitments to God. They are also the place where the highest sacraments of the faith occur — the marriage of couples and the “sealing” of families for eternity.

Glen and I were married in the Denver temple (see picture below).

Glen and I now try to visit the temple on a monthly basis.  We consider it as refuge from the craziness of life and always leave feeling peaceful and closer to God.

The youth (12-18-year-olds) usually visit the temple once or twice a year.

Many of the temples, including the Washington DC temple, have visitors' centers that anyone can enter. There are often community performances, art exhibits, and other interactive displays which make visiting interesting for adults and children.

At Christmastime, the DC temple (along with many others) put up thousands of Christmas lights around the temple grounds and have special Christmas performances and displays (including an international nativity display) at the visitors' center. If you haven't been there at Christmastime yet, I highly recommend a visit. We go there at least once every Christmas season. This is where you'll find a schedule of the performances.
