Pioneer Day Picnic

One of the things I love about my friend, Rachel, besides the fact that she's an awesome mom, a great listener, someone who also loves photography, baking, and blogging, is that she's good at making things happen.  While I only daydream about planning fun social activities with our friends, she actually goes the distance and makes it happen!

Take this Pioneer Day picnic at the park...

She made the decision to do it in the first place...

did all the advertising for it...

and planned all of the activities.

It turned out to be a great way to celebrate our pioneer ancestors' sacrifices and to be reminded why it's such a blessing to have great friends in our lives.

What's Better....

What's better than finding an awesome new group of homeschoolers to celebrate pioneer day with?

For Ellie, it's making a great new friend in the process!

What's better than being silly with the missionaries when they drop by?

For Adam, it's discovering that there's no need to "grow a foot or two" before his mission, since he's already the same height as Sister Wright!

What's better than yet another day of non-humid summer weather with temps a good 10-15 degrees below where they normally are?

For Lara, it's yet another whole week of it!

Day 206--Pioneer Day Breakfast

Our ward celebrated Pioneer Day (a day late) with a good old fashioned Pioneer Breakfast and bike parade.

Emma was so excited to have an excuse to wear her pioneer clothes in public that she woke up at the crack of dawn to put them on. Both of these dresses are ones that I wore when I was a little girl. The blue one Emma is wearing (and its matching doll dress) was one of my favorites. I wore it to church and to school when I was Emma's age. Either my aunt Valerie or Marva had made them for me and I just adored them. Emma's bonnet was a souvenir she picked out from Amish Country.

Here they are in the bike/scooter parade. As you can see my kids were a little overdressed for the occasion. :)

Even little pioneers get all tuckered out running around in the hot sun!
