Only in Utah

I am writing up this blogpost today and realizing that I may be the most boring person in the entire universe!   If one of my blogposts lately doesn't have something about hiking, food, the grandkids, or a house project...is it really even me?    Probably not.   This one has 3 of the 4, so you can rest assured that an impostor has not taken over control of my blog, although you may be wishing that were to happen!  😁

On Saturday, Glen and I trekked by  the Lindon Temple, which is currently under construction...
.
WE loved the messages that were chalked onto the trail around the temple...
Only in Utah...😂
We ended up going 8 miles, bringing me to a total of 36 miles for the week...

ON Sunday, I raided Ellie's closet and found something green to wear to church for Saint Patrick's Day.  I also cried listening to a recently returned missionary from Adam's mission talk to our ward.  She's from another ward in our stake, so I didn't know her, but hearing  her speak and share stories about Adam's mission made me miss him all the more.  I awkwardly asked her for a hug afterward, because it helped me feel a little more connected to him to know she'd been  so recently doing exactly what he is currently doing.
I also made some delicious cookies to share at the Worldwide Broadcast for RS, which they showed at our stake center...
Usually when I make gluten free cookies, they hardly get touched, but I made this sign to go with them and much more got eaten than normal!   😋

Glen stopped for a pit stop to go fishing on his way to Saint George   He didn't catch anything, but it was a beautiful day and he just enjoyed being outside

In the meantime, I am still hardcore purging our house.   I'm listing stuff on our BuyNothing group, trying to sell things on FB marketplace and Amazon, taking regular trips to Deseret Industries, and throwing things away.  Today I listed a bunch of my craft supplies and I'm in a bit of mourning.   They are supplies that have been well-loved for many years, but I have to acknowledge that I just don't use them enough to justify the space they take up.   I'm quite tired of all the work and the mess that decluttering entails, but hopeful that it will all be worth it in the end.

I'm going to start now thinking of something outside my normal to post next week.   Will I be able to do it?   Perhaps.  Or perhaps I'll just tell you the 3 jokes I know, post about the 5 last books I've read, or start complaining about the weather.

We shall see!

PS  Have a great week!  Thanks for persevering through the boringness and reading my blog today!  💗

Two People

March 17:

I pinched TWO PEOPLE today:
1. Glen
2. Emma
Emma tried to get away with wearing this sticker, but it kept falling off leaving her  with nary a speck of green on her.   Glen didn't even try.   I guess he figured that since he's the boss, no one at work would dare  trying to pinch him.

I definitely did not pinch these TWO PEOPLE today:

I told off TWO PEOPLE today:
1.  My doctor

2.  The manager at the fitness center we just joined

I thoroughly enjoyed the YW activity that TWO PEOPLE planned:

1.  one of my Laurels planned to make this  ice cream bread
2.  another Laurel planned for us all to sing-along to Disney songs

Now I wish I were TWO PEOPLE.

My head is barely above water right now and I could really use a clone  to help me get a few things done!

this week....a day at a time

At the end of each week, I look back and it often seems like every day is the same--too much time in the car, not enough time to get everything done, all the while being so very sleep deprived.   I laugh when I look back to when  the kids were young and  I was constantly searching for field trips and fun activities  to fill our day with.  Nowadays, I yearn for as little adventure as possible and more time to just all be home together.  This week, like most, was as crazy as they come, but then for as much as I hate to admit it, I know that these days with all the kids at home are fleeting and I long not to forget any of them--the good, the bad, and the boring.

Here's a glimpse at our not-so-average week:

Sunday:  Saint Patrick's Day dawned with lots of big brotherly pinching for those forgetful enough not to have worn green pajamas to bed the night before.  The girls, not willing to be pinched another second,  immediately remedied the situation and bedecked themselves in the greenest clothes they could find.  They were as cute and Irish looking as non-Irish people can be!

In the end, Spence was the least Irish looking of the bunch with his barely green tie tucked into his blue sweater...  I guess that's why he opted for a good leprechaun hairdo instead.

Monday:  I had one of the kids stay home who clearly didn't really need to stay home.  I tried to be good and savor the time together, but I'm sad to say that at the end of the day I felt a little frustrated at all that I did not accomplish.

Tuesday:  Spencer passed his 9-month check up with flying colors and afterward we celebrated with lunch and treats out on the town.

Wednesday:  I tempered chocolate for the first time ever and Emma, Cami, and I made the shiniest, prettiest chocolate bonbons ever.  Emma ended up winning the day though and she won the grand prize among a bunch of grown women for her Crispy Caramel Bites.
While the girls and I were eating goodies all evening, Glen was at Spence's lacrosse game with Ellie and Adam.  Spence played well, but unfortunately his team lost again.   Upon our simultaneous arrival home at 10:00pm, Cami informed us that she still had an essay to write, which meant that every person in the family went to bed a good 2-3 hours past their bedtime.

Thursday:  After coating our kitchen in chocolate the day before, Thursday was spent coating it in powdered sugar.  I made 5 dozen cupcakes--two for the teacher appreciation luncheon, one for YW, and two for Ellie to share with her class for her birthday.  They definitely didn't turn out as pretty or as tasty as Cami's, but watching Cami has definitely improved my skills greatly  and I don't think they turned out too bad for a non-cake person like me.

After baking all day, visiting the school two separate times, and taking a quick trip to the electronics store, we went to the second grade musical called,  "Pass It On."  It was a  very darling performance and Ellie was pleased as punch about her solo part.  Although she had been practicing it excitedly for weeks,  when her teacher learned that the music teachers had given her a solo, he was so worried about her having a seizure during the performance that he almost gave the part to someone else. I begged him not to and thankfully she ended up not having any issues.  Check her out in all of her sparkly glory (in the outfit that Grandma Sandy had sent) at the :40 second mark.

Friday:  Spence and I woke up at the crack of dawn and jumped on an airplane to Utah!  I dropped him off at BYU this afternoon for a weekend of campus touring and fun with his friends.  He just learned that he was also accepted to James Madison University (JMU), so we will also be taking a trip there in the next couple of weeks while he ponders this big decision he has to make.   In the meantime, I am enjoying a few days in Utah without the kids and trying to adjust to the fact that Spencer is really leaving us in a few months.  I am clearly having kid withdrawals though and I felt a little dumb when I realized that I've called home no less than a dozen times already.  Thank you to Glen who is holding down the fort at home and last I heard  was eating dinner with the kids at  IHOP at 9:00pm.

Our Saint Patty's Day at a Glance

Breakfast: Green German Pancakes  with Lucky Buttermilk Caramel Syrup

Dinner:  Chicken from the freezer with leftover Alfredo sauce (recipe coming soon) with roasted broccoli for a good dose of green!

Dessert:  BYU Mint Brownies (I had a cheat day so I could update the pictures for the blog):

My cute little leprechauns head off to school while I spent the day organizing and distributing the spring PTA fundraiser !  (Emma and Spence had already left for school before this picture was taken, but never fear, they were bedecked with green as well!)

Tonight:  2nd Grade performance of "Make it Healthy" which was totally cute and catchy.  I love our music teachers!  Meanwhile Spence was laxing it up at his 3rd lacrosse game of the season.  Despite their green uniforms and Spence's hat trick of goals, unfortunately the luck o' the Irish did not help his team to win this time.
And across the country Glen and Cami shed the green for the day and donned their BYU blue!

They got to Jazzercise and shop with Grandma Sandy, eat lunch with my Dad who is there on a business trip, and also chill with Grandpa Dave and Glen's brother Ryan.  (hopefully they're taking lots more pics to include Dad and Ryan as well).

And Cami decided to brag about her nice teacher who let her out of school for a few days!  ;o)

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!!!
Luck o' the Irish to ye all!
