Narrowly Avoiding Death by Boredom

I've always liked weekends, but now that I'm a homeschooling mom...I love the weekends.  I love sleeping in a little, I love being off academic duty, and I love the change of scenery as the weekday routines fly out the window on the weekends.   This past weekend was a very average weekend, so, since my main purpose of this blog is to find a sure cure for insomnia, I,  of course,  am blogging about it in every excruciating detail.    I will do a minute by minute recap from 7:00am-10:00pm  each day and then do  a summary of each of our dreams.

Or maybe not.

I don't want to be accused of causing anyone to die of boredom, so, by super popular demand, instead I will just post the highlights of our very average weekend, which should be just boring enough to induce slumber, but not quite boring enough to induce death.    A good balance, I think.

Ellie and Adam played in their last soccer games of the season on Saturday!    Ellie and Adam were  clearly  one of the least experienced players on their respective teams, but they both improved a lot during the season and had fun, so it was definitely a successful season as far as we're concerned!   Adam's coach was fantastic and other than the time Ellie's coach yelled at her team for "sucking" and made half the girls cry, he was actually a pretty good coach too.

Emma made another wedding cake!   Cami made one before she left for college and word got out, so  Emma's gotten two more orders since she's left.   The orderers  use this as their cake to cut into.

We lost our leftover Sunday dinner (fajitas and homemade guacamole) in an unfortunate and very messy crash...

I've been trying to stay in my church clothes on Sundays, but this Sunday we went on a walk and I got cold, so I put on my exercise leggings as an extra layer.   I walked all over the neighborhood (3-1/2 miles) looking like this and immediately got called by 3 fashion agencies all wanting me to be their next designer. ↓↓↓

I got bold and ordered five boxes of apples this year.  The plan was to eat lots of them fresh, make delicious apple treats, and dehydrate the rest.   It's been a few weeks now and I'm two boxes down, three to go and I'm getting nervous.

I deactivated my Facebook account...again.   I had been keeping it at arm's length for the last few months, letting Glen be the keeper of my password and not getting on often, but the latest Facebook "strife" was causing me stress and I decided that I needed another break from it.

Mom to the Rescue

The Problem:  It's time for soccer and one of the soccer balls is missing.  All that can be found is this long-lost ball that has spent a few too many days in the backyard....

While the ball was well inflated and perfectly fine for kicking around a field,  there were still buckets of tears and arguing over which one of the kids would have to be the one to take the scruffy ball to soccer...

I was feeling my frustration level rise as quickly as their decibel level, when suddenly I had an idea!!!!  Why not break out the markers and make the soccer ball as colorful as they wanted it to be?

After Ellie, Adam, and Cami frantically colored away, their smiles seemed to grow as each pentagon took on a new color and design.

It was definitely the most colorful ball on the field...

which worked well for masking the fact that her socks didn't exactly match....

YAY!  Make that one big colorful tally mark in the "Mom Saves the Day" column!

And believe me, when I say that I need all the tally marks I can get today.  I'm at about negative 3,000 after a little parking lot incident I had today in our three-day-old car.

Day 304--Halloween

Today was like any other Saturday with soccer games and chores....

Afterward, we got all decked out in our cool tin foil hats and vests to go get our free Chipotle burritos, but it turns out we were a few hours early and got denied. I was so annoyed that I didn't even take a picture of our spectacularly shiny attire.

We went to Fuddruckers instead, then ran home to get ready for trick-or-treating. Every single one of the kids (except Ellie) switched costumes from what they wore for trunk-or-treating last week.

Don't ask about Cami's. You don't want to know.

Really.

Day 269--Rain, Schmain

While Glen, Spencer, and Adam were idling away at Virginia Beach on a father/son camp-out us girls were left with a Saturday's worth of activities and chores. While I secretly hoped that Emma's soccer game would get rained out, alas it did not rain a drop until we almost got there (after a half hour drive to Springfield which I'm totally not bitter about, but if they even have a game that far away again I'm boycotting).

So, the girls played in the mud and cold drizzling rain...

and still beat their opponents by several points! Way to go Emma!

Day 255--Soccer, Soccer, Bo, Boccer

The first games of the soccer season were today.

Adam was so excited to be playing again, that he just couldn't seem to wipe that smile from his face. He was huffing and puffing as he ran up and down the field, but even still he kept that smile the entire game.

While Adam played, Emma was charged keeping baby Jonas (my cousin's son) entertained. Emma thoroughly enjoyed her realm of responsibility and doted on him hand and foot.

Of course, after a while Cami realized she was getting gypped of Jonas time and took over for Emma.

Then it was off to Emma's soccer game. She hadn't played since she was five, so she was pretty nervous getting started. It didn't take too long though before Emma was running full speed ahead and defending that ball!

When Emma's game was done, she got to play with one of her BFF's who plays on the same team with her. Audrey has recently moved away and Emma has been going through Audrey withdrawals lately. But with Audrey's dad as the coach they're ensured three days a week together for the next couple months!

Day 101--Stop Talking!

Today was Ellie and Adam's first day of soccer practice with our ward's soccer league. Unfortunately it got rained out, so we ended up meeting indoors to let the kids run around while the adults talked about all the details.
Here is Ellie all decked out in her soccer gear....including crocs and a necklace. The necklace was just Ellie adding her own little feminine touch to her otherwise very unprincesslike outfit. The crocs were merely the best shoes for the job, since she doesn't even own tennis shoes.

With all of Ellie's bubbly girliness and princess fascination, I was a little surprised when several times during our meeting Ellie stopped playing with her friends to ask me, "When will you stop talking so we can play soccer?"
