Day 317: Rhythm and Drums

Today we had a rhythm and drum day at our house with Ellie's preschool group.  I collected a bunch of coffee cans from Freecycle and helped the kids to make their own drums.

The kids had a fun time repeating rhythms and discovering all the different sounds their drums could make (marshmallows make cool sounds and taste good afterward).

Then we made little Indian vests since they had just learned about Native Americans the day before.  They were cute as whooped and hollered and beat on their drums.

It's fun days like today that remind me why I like doing home preschool so much!

Flashback Friday: Seventh Grade Then and Now

Lately I've been getting a lot of comments that Cami looks just like me.   While I'd like to think that I was half as cute and stylish when I was in 7th grade as Cami is now, evidence proves otherwise.

So in an effort to lay this argument to rest once and for all, I'm putting this out there for you to decide.

Does Cami look more like Glen or me?

Keep in mind:  Of course being that Cami and I are of the same gender, I understand that there are certain elements of our physique that make us more similar (like our freakishly long fingers and cute little ears), but for this vote, I'm talking facial features.

So here's the evidence....

Cami

Glen
So, what do you think?

Day 316: Three for Three

Given that the two girls before her have tried it out before her, we should have expected this....

But it still bites every time.  Goodbye piggy tails, Hello little pixie cut.

Girly Girl

It doesn't seem that long ago when I first lovingly gazed upon my sweet cherubic little Cami Rose.

My first daughter.

After two years of balls and cars,  I was thrilled with the pink, ruffles, and  lace that now filled our home and couldn't wait for the day when she had enough hair for me to braid and style.

Of course it wasn't long at all before she grew out of all that cute baby pudge and developed into quite the little princess.  Frilly  dresses, crowns, and castle forts soon became the girly imprint on our home and I just marveled at the innocence and delight which hallmarked those years of her life.

Then came along the tween years with its braces, email, facebook, shopping, Young Women, diets, and staying up too late.

Certainly it's a little more expensive than those princess years, but now she loves to bake goodies, is thoughtful and sweet, is an awesome babysitter, and sets a great example for her younger siblings so we're not complaining.

Every once in a while though, I can't help but to get a little nostalgic for the "good old days" again.

The days when she actually agreed with me just because I'm her mom.

Now look at her.

I don't know how this happened.

My daughter is a Jacob fan.

Day 315: Food Storage Closet

I finally finished all of the FHE lessons last night, so today I spent putting all of the food storage into our new closet.  Actually it's not all of it, but it's a good portion of it---the portion that was in closets and corners of our house as part of our decor.

The rest of the buckets will all go along the bottom (we built the closet specifically to fit them two deep), but we're going to wait until we've recarpeted before we tote those in.

And while I was busy with this project I discovered that Ellie is totally and madly in love with Rocky....

Day 314: More Busy...

Today I was knocking myself out trying to finish digitizing the four FHE lessons for Enrichment tonight leaving Ellie to entertain herself once again.   Today she discovered the parts of the lessons that  I was scanning and had fun playing with those.  These little puzzles are from my lesson on Reverence and Ellie must have put them together 12 times each!

Day 313: Busy, Busy, Busy....

I was super busy working on a huge project all day, so Ellie spent the day entertaining herself with Rocky.

Question of the Day

How is it possible that I'm such a tyrant when it comes to forcing/making sure the kids change their underwear every day....

and yet do not even notice my kids, of their own admission, wearing the same pair of socks for an entire week?

Okay fine. You don't have to make me feel bad--- I'll officially bow out of that Mother of the Year contest again for the fourteenth year in a row.

Day 311: I ♥ Home Depot Kids' Workshop

We love the Kids' Workshop that Home Depot hosts the first Saturday of every month.  The kids think it's the coolest thing in the world to wield their own hammer and nails....

They love the sense of accomplishment when their project is done....

and they love that no matter what time we go, there's always at least a friend or two there.   Today there were four.

Day 310: Baby Michael....

I got a chance to watch this cute little munchkin all day today while his parents went to Philly for the day.   I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before so this was a good glimpse of how the day went.

Flashback Friday: Big Bang Theory

Big Bang Theory (of 1988): The greater the height and angle of curve to the bangs, the greater the perceived coolness factor among peers.

Side wings were said to up the coolness factor ten-fold...
but in my case, by the time I figured out how to unstick my hand from my hairspray coated brush without removing skin people were using straighteners.

Day 309--Food Storage Decor and Awesome Chili

Today was filled with moving this pile of food storage in the corner of our dining room, down to the basement near our new closet (picture coming soon)....

After that huge task was accomplished we celebrated with some of Bruce Nielson's secret chili which he recently started sharing the recipe for....

YUMMM!

Day 308--Day on the Town

Today AnnaLisa, Ellie, and I went for a day on the town.  First we went to the big city regional library which is quite cool I must say.  Then we just walked around the old part of town and explored all the little shops.  We went into needlepoint shops, quilting shops, thrift shops, and then found this cute little bakery....

It wasn't as good as Georgetown cupcakes, but still pretty decadent for a weekday afternoon!
