At age 12, I started buying all my own clothes. For most people this would be the advent of dressing "cool" for the first time in their lives. For me, though, it was the beginning of making it very obvious to the world that I have about the same kind of eye for fashion as I have an ear for music.
In college, my poor roommates helpfully tried to pump up my cool factor with sound fashion advice and borrowed clothes, but when they saw me wearing their cute borrowed red sweater, with my white pants far after Labor Day and accompanied with orange socks and my brown tennis shoes, my fate was sealed as the anti-fashionista of the apartment.
So now as an adult I wonder, when I consider myself to be a detail oriented person, why am I so oblivious to the rules of fashion? Why is that I still wear my tennis shoes with every outfit? Or why that the only fashion rule I can seem to remember is not to wear blue with black and I still do it all the time anyway?
After careful consideration, I've come up with the following hindrances to me ever being fashionable:
1. I like grocery shopping way more than I like clothes shopping.
2. When I do occasionally venture into a clothing store, I'm usually in a hurry.
3. I am lazy and like to be comfortable.
4. 90% of what I buy comes from secondhand stores or the clearance racks.
5. I hate ironing.
So now I've admitted to the world that I'm hopelessly unfashionable and since it's a proven fact that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, I've decided that my only hope is to convince the world that loose, wrinkly clothing IS the new fashion.

This woman is dressed in super cool, highly fashionable clothing. |
Is it working yet?

Those are some awesome outfits. And I agree with your entire list . . . I think shopping for clothes is torture and I'd much rather be comfortable than fashionable. I now have an entire room devoted to ironing clothes. That room, however, does not get used very often :o)
Ha. Maybe you would be a good candidate for "What Not to Wear". =)
I'm interested in the fact that you started buying all your own clothes at age 12. Where did you get money for this? How did it work? I've heard some ideas about having your children budget for their own clothing and would love to hear details from someone who actually did it!
You are the coolest, most stylish person I know!
I am with you. A comfy pair of sweats is good enough for me. And why spend money my four year old will get something on it with his first mushy kiss of the day and I'd rather have the kiss!!
I'm with you on comfort before fashion. Baggy sweats and sweatshirts are the best clothes ever.
I'm no fashionista, but that blue and white striped shorts outfit is awesome! I would love to wear it this summer. Seriously.
