You know I totally ♥LOVE♥ sending and receiving Christmas cards.
It's seriously one of the highlights of my year reconnecting with old friends and hearing all about their ups and downs. I've heard it argued that Facebook and blogging are replacing the need for this yearly tradition, but I say Bah Humbug to you! Nothing could ever replace a nice newsy letter and a family picture from an old college roommate being delivered by our faithful mailman.
Nothing at all.
Except maybe a pack of chocolates and some flowers, but I digress...
So *WHY* exactly am I rambling on about Christmas cards on Saint Patrick's Day?
It's because we got one yesterday.
Yeah, it was a little late, but I don't mind late so much. It's actually kind of fun spreading out the mailbox excitement into the new year...way into the new year.
It was a nice creative newsy letter with pictures from a good friend. Just the kind that I love. Except not this one.
Instead of a cute little family picture in the autumn leaves, they put in a picture of ME in my swimsuit from a pool party last year.
After I got over the initial shock of seeing myself aged 10 years with gray roots and rolls of baby fat, I took a deep breath and realized that this must be a cruel joke.
This wasn't a super late Christmas card.
It was just a slightly early April Fool's card.
They were just trying to trick me into believing that I'm not 25 and that I don't weigh 110 lbs. anymore. Whew. I'm so glad I caught their joke.

Did your kids do that to you? If so, VERY CLEVER. I am impressed!
Who in the world sent you the card? That sounds a little cruel and a little early for April Fools. That's just me. I don't want anyone sending me a card with a picture of me in a swimsuit inside!
Oooh! That's mean. Not bad if it is just a practical joke, but still....
Who ever sent it must have known they had to send it well before April Fools to actually trick you!
Have you found out who it was yet? If comments on your blog posts are any indication, I would wager a guess it was one of your brothers! You all seem to have great senses of humor...
I hear you Lara...as long as I don't have to look in a mirror, I am always young and thin.
Sometimes, even the mirror will lie to me...but, unfortunately, photos never do.
big sigh.
I don't know if I would have handled it as well as you did. Did you ever find out who did it?
that's hilarious! i'd be scared to see a picture of myself in a swimsuit too ;) who sent it to you?!
Apparently in my attempts to be funny I neglected to get my point across:
1. I really did receive a Christmas card from a friend on Monday
2. Inside there really was a picture of me and a few of my kids in bathing suits at a party
3. I really was horrified at what I saw
4. To preserve my self-esteem I PRETENDED that it was really an April's Fools card.
5. Truth is: I really do have gray roots, 25 lbs. to lose, am almost 36, and am an unclear writer.
6. I am now going back to pretending.
The original post was funny enough, but then your clarifications win the comments had me laughing out loud! We are SO alike! Except for the gray roots.
Hahaha!
