Every month I write out the DirectTV bill that is how I feel! 70 bucks that's just gone, gone, gone! It's enough to make me want to...
give the stupid bill to Adam and let him destroy it by any cruel means possible...yeah I know, I'm harsh.
It's just that we lived so nicely without it for so long, and I really liked the fact that I felt that it was one way we were being so smart and frugal with our money. Then two years ago it all changed. Glen decided that he was missing out, so he exercised his prerogative, found a deal, and signed us up.
What good has it done us since then? It's gotten the kids hooked on Hannah Montana, Drake and Josh, and the Suite Life of Zach and Cody. Oh yeah, and there's all the sporting events that Glen was missing out on...you know Ohio State vs. USC or some other teams he doesn't care a lick about. And how can I forget the golf? Can there be a more boring sport to watch than golf? Did you know that you can find golf on DirectTV almost any time of the day or night? Trust me. I know.
And what do I watch? NOTHING! No news, no Oprah, no HGTV....literally nothing!
So why haven't I put my foot down yet?
It's because I've grown rather attached to staying in our jammies to watch General Conference twice a year. I like that I can have dinner cooking upstairs, we can pause it if someone needs to leave for a minute, and I don't have to be embarrassed that my kids are the loudest ones in the whole building.
Ahhhh! It's almost enough to make me forget about the $70.
Almost.

It is nice to be able to stay home...
I feel that way about cable sometimes too. Too add to my pain of paying for cable, Tom also insists on having HD, which costs extra. Arghhh...
I will have to find other ways to be financially sensible!
I do like staying home for conference, although inevitably it means sleeping through at least one of the sessions. Oh well.
Getting conference at home is great. Although I would put being able to get most of the BYU games on equal (or higher) standing. I am speaking strictly of motivators not quality of programming.
Well said, Pete, well said.
Pete and Glen...two young men close to my heart!
You guys probably are too young to remember some of the machinations that we used to have to go through to watch not only general conferences, but any BYU sporting event.
We did not even have a television in our home until Lara was 6 or 7.
And back them, we lived in places that did not show GC or BYU games. Both in Monterey and in Iowa, we used to go sit in our car on the highest hill we could find and try to tune in to KSL radio-which turns up its signal after dark. KSL would re-play the sessions of conference beginning at midnight and we would sit there in the dark as the signal would fade in and out. Same with BYU games as they would fade in and out as we listened to Paul James' play-by-play-sometimes missing big plays. And the hoops we had to jump through to watch the Miracle Bowl stagger the imagination.
So, it is a blessing to live at a time when modern technology allows us to watch almost any game we want to watch!
To me at least, $60-$70 seems like money well spent!
Yes, we too love watching GC in our PJs.
Do you guys remember in the good old days-getting up on Saturday and Sunday mornings-getting dressed up in our Sunday best and driving the ten miles over to the Anoka chapel to sit through sessions of General Conference?
Between sessions, we would either have a picnic at the Rocket Slide park or head over to Bonanza for their buffet lunch.
Sitting home in our pjs is far preferrable!
Dad-Mom
I agree. I prefer the staying at home. We have a very tiny, tiny branch and we went one time. My kids were the loudest and only ones there that I felt that they were taking it away from the members that were there to watch it. At least at home, they can be loud, eating food and taking naps during that time.
I love watching conference at home. It's the best! We had to get by on just listening to it online this year...but at least we were at home.
You sound exactly like me....and now I know we can watch conference live on BYUTV and so.........
