Emma: Before and After

Emma was only 2-years-old when we noticed her eyes crossing occasionally. The pediatric ophthalmologist was hopeful that with some glasses we could keep her eyes focused straight.

At two-years-old, with bi-focals and red hair Emma was quite the stand-out little cutie wherever she went.
With the glasses and periodic eye patching we'd hoped to be able to take care of the crossing, but when she was three it was determined that the current treatment was not working and that an eye muscle surgery would be the best course for her.

The surgery went well and she did not need glasses for a couple of years. Then in kindergarten we noticed her crossing again, so her pediatric ophthalmologist once again prescribed bi-focals in hopes that it would take care of it.

This time it is working. With her glasses on she's fine, but as soon as she takes them off she's crossed again. We're ecstatic that the treatment is going well and are hopeful that one day she won't even need the glasses at all! In the meantime though, she only takes them off to bathe, swim, sleep, and cry, which means we need to count on replacing her glasses at least once a year.

Well, it's that time of year again!

This is Emma in her old scratched up pair (from the fancy glasses store in the ophthalmologist office).

And here she is in her brand new pair straight from Costco at half the price and double the service! She's still a stand-out with her contagious smile, reddish hair, and cute little freckles.

And in case you didn't notice the sparkles in the first picture...here's a closer look. They match her personality just perfectly! :)

PS Emma LOVES comments almost as much as I do and incessantly checks the totals whenever she's the star of the post. (hint hint)

Nothing better than sparkly glasses! I had a similar surgery as a little girl. I'm so glad things are working out well! Such a cute girl!

LOVE the glasses. My Megan (Beart on my blog) has the same exact issue. Although she never had the surgery. Her eyes are getting stronger and she can control her crossing now. She has had bifocals since she was 4 and we just bought her a new pair of glasses much like Emma's. It's funny. With all the cute glasses out there, I kind of wish I needed them too.

Way cute!!!

Emma, your new glasses ROCK!!! They are almost as cute as you, but on your face, they make you look like a million gazillion bucks.

I love you sweetie.

Cute glasses! Emma, you and my Jillian have something in common. She also got bifocals at 2 for the same reason. She's eight now and still in thick bifocals but her eyes don't cross at all when she wears them. I think you both look great in glasses.
